The stereograph of a Navajo girl standing inside a Pima basket was taken in front of the Alvarado Hotel, next to the Atkinson, Topeka, Santa Fe (ATSF) railroad station in Albuquerque, NM. Chartered in 1859 as the Atchison and Topeka Railroad Company by Cyrus K. Holliday, it was renamed the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad Company in 1863. The rail lines extended to Los Angeles, California by 1887 and broke ground in Texas in 1881. The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Passenger Depot was destroyed by fire on January 4, 1993. It was built in 1902 along with the now-demolished Alvarado Hotel, and served rail passengers as the gateway to Albuquerque and the Southwest for over 90 years. The depot was built in the California Mission style, which was used extensively by SF designers throughout the West. It sported a domed tower and red tile roof and was surrounded by an arched arcade..." (https://www.cabq.gov/planning/boards-commissions/landmarks-urban-conservation-commission/historic-landmarks).
Named after Coronado's lieutenant Hernando de Alvarado, the Alvarado Hotel was built in 1902 and was part of the Fred Harvey House chain.
(http://www.harveyhouses.net/states/newmexico/nmhouses.html). It was designed in the California Mission style. Fred Harvey was an entrepreneur who partnered with the ATSFR and built a national chain of high standard restaurants, hotels, and retail stores in the train stations.
